Ballroom Marfa is sponsoring a raffle to support the ongoing relief effort in Haiti following the January 12 earthquake. For only $20, you can purchase a ticket for a chance to win a limited-edition artwork by Matthew Day Jackson entitled Sculpture for my Right Hand, 2007. The work consists of an intricately detailed set of silver ‘brass’ knuckles inscribed with a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt along the outer edge, which reads “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” The piece, which is one in an edition of forty, comes housed in hand-tooled leather holster with a traditional western wear bandana. Ballroom Marfa usually sells this work for $5,000.
Tickets will be available for purchase beginning Friday, January 29th at Ballroom Marfa and other area businesses, including The Hotel Paisano, The Thunderbird Hotel and The Marfa Book Co., with locations in Ft. Davis, Alpine, and Marathon to be announced. All proceeds will be directly donated to Doctors Without Borders, an international medical humanitarian organization that provides independent, impartial assistance to those most in need.
